Cassie and The Butterfly Fund

Cassie had a rare skin disorder called Epidermolysis Bullosa. EB for short. It is a disease in which one's skin is fragile, and even the smallest bump or touch
will blister, and even cause infection. Statistics show that less than 1 per million children born will have EB. Estimating to about 500k cases found internationally.
EB is a hereditary gene that is usually passed through family members. On birthdays, Cassie's only request was that her friends and loved ones donate money to the Butterfly Fund.
The Butterfly Fund is a non-profit organization used to help raise awareness to those who have also suffered the same illness.
Why butterflies, you ask? Because like butterflies, the slightest touch can damage their beautiful, fragile wings.

Cassie had to eat mostly through a G-tube in her stomach, and wore bandages on her arms, legs and chest to try and help prevent
new wounds and open wounds from forming and getting infected.

You see, the thing about EB...Most who have this disorder, don't make it through more than a few years.
We were told from the start that Cassie would likely not make it...She passed away on January 10th, 2014. She would have been 17 on the 6th of March.

She spent most of her time in the comfort of her home with her cats, Monster High dolls, beloved Father, little brother and her art work.
Cassie loved cosplaying as well as drawing Manga.

Cassie was beautiful, talented, determined, stubborn and so very brilliant. She was the very definition of bravery. Since day one, she continuously fought a battle that no young woman should have to fight.


We were merely children when we developed the love of art. Whether it drawing, painting, or making jewelry.

It started with tracing from manga books, and somewhere along the way, we found ourselves drawing our own characters and creating new worlds.

Even on days where I felt like I couldn't keep drawing, Cassie was there to reassure me that it doesn't matter who you are, or what you're going...You can accomplish anything you work towards.

Cassie was a girl who grew up not believing in magic, but knowing in her heart that it truly does exist.
Not to say imagination wasn't used. As any young girls our age, we must have dreamt it all.
There was no dream too small.
